Hi, been a long time...

since I posted. There has been so much responsibilities on the YPM store front and the YPM manufacturing front. Reiko has been taking care of the store while I have been tending to the manufacturing, shipping, organizing plans for the next show, talking to customers, etc. Have you noticed how organized the store has been? Credit it all the my wonderful staff. It is truly a blessing to have organized people on your team.

Filling, taking and shipping orders has never been so much fun! One thing to do on my list of to do is organize my shipping and receiving area. It has been getting scattered with boxes, tape, products, order forms, message notes, etc. Did you know we have a huge area "somewhere" in, under.... the store where we receive, store, take orders and ship our products? I call it my second home, home away from home or better yet, my safe haven.

I'm understanding the term "stretched thin" more and more. I have felt like this since starting the manufacturing and this is one of the main reasons I have neglected this blog. Family, which includes, but not limited to soccer, school, homework comes first. Manufacturing comes a close second. The time I have left is spread towards everything else, including this blog. Most days my time is totally consumed from morning until I go to bed with the first two mentioned above. But, today I made this blog a to do before I called it a night ( I always make a list of what needs to be done everyday when I wake; I find this keeps me organized and gives me a goal to complete.

For all that has reminded me to blog again, here I am and I'm here to give some serious updates.

First, our Scrap Pink crop (supporting Susan G Komen foundation) is filling up nicely. Remember all of the $20.00 fee goes to the foundation and is 100% tax deductible (ask us for the tax ID # if you need it). Thank you for supporting us, the foundation and everyone struck down by this disease, every penny helps!

We have decided that are going to try to raise more money by selling raffle tickets for some great baskets. We will have the items for display starting Monday for all to see. Buy a ticket for a $1.00 or 6 tickets for $5.00. Put the ticket in the box in front of the basket you want to win. We are donating all items from the store and YPM has given us some great items as well. One item is a PINK PULL-EZ filled with ribbon. The pink one is the only one available at this time, it is a proto-type of the ones to be released next month. If you win, you will be able to be the first to own one. All the proceeds from ticket sales will be donated with the crop fees to the foundation. Please come in and buy your tickets next week.

Our first annual Holiday party is on November 10th from 10am-12am. It is $40.00 with all meals and make n takes included. You do not want to miss this event. It is the first coordinated event and our last event for us for the year. This event is packed with raffles, games and two awesome make n takes. Check the website for details and menu items.

Third, thanks to Shawn, we have in the works our first annual garage sale. Our treasures section has been so popular, we want want to push the idea farther. Save all your unwanted items. We are working out the details and will post about it soon. Be on the lookout for instructions on how to reserve a table soon.

Look for changes to our downstairs cropping area. We have moved one of our registers to the bottom of the stairs. This will make it more convenient to add things to your tab. You no longer have to walk to the middle of the store to add items to your tab.

We have also started our loyality card program. On October 1, we started selling loyality cards for .25. The card has 20 available punches ($200.00 total). Everytime you spend $10.00, you receive a punch. Fill the card and receive 10% off your entire next purchase. Come in to find out more.

Memberships are availble to buy for $100.00 until the end of the year. Come in now for your membership, we will not be selling them again for this price anytime soon.

Finally, we have changed all class prices to $15.00 or less. All classes will be $15.00 or less starting on October 15th. We will supply you a seat and and a project sheet when you pay. The project sheet will have all the supplies needed for the class, it is up to you to buy the supplies or use your existing stash. This gives you a chance to use what you want and tailor the class to your liking.

There are no restrictions on what you use for your project. The supply list will have what you need and the supplies we used (some may want to follow the project to a tee). Look on our calendar for some awesome projects coming up, all for under $15.00

Have you noticed our huge calendar? This calender will have all the upcoming events and dates. Please look on the calendar for any classes or events you may be interested in.

That is all for now. Have a great Friday.

Please join us again

I am Jan Keeling and on October 6, 2007 I am hosting a Charity Crop I call 'Crop for Miracles' along with the support of Tracy WalMart. WalMart is a National Sponsor for Children's Miracle Network and each year we raise money for UC Davis Children's Hospital. Last year we raised $14,000 at the Tracy store alone. Part of this money was raised during the first Crop for Miracles.

Our 2nd annual crop will be on Saturday, October 6, 2007 from 10 am to 12 am. The cost will be $35.00 and will include lunch and dinner. There will be great raffle prizes as well as a fun challenge or two. Gifts a plenty and munchies & water & soda available all day. Call now to reserve your spot & we'll make it better than last year...as always there is only room for 100 croppers.
I hope you will join us for a fun day of scrap booking and helping us to bring a miracle to the infants & children in our area.

Please bring an EXTRA 4 x 6 photo of yourself, family member, pet or a vacation spot or just a fun place you visited. Anything will work. Your picture will be returned.... but altered (that's why I ask for an extra).

Please call 209-836-1117 to sign up.

Remember, your donations are tax deductible.

This one's for Stevie.

Laura's cousin Stevie who just turned three was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia six months ago. You know Laura, the person that works at the store that is always so perky and willing to help. Well, she needs our help and it amazes me that this woman going to run a marathon in honor of Stevie. She is not only helping Stevie, but all the people that have been diagnosed with this terrible disease.

I can not imagine one of my children diagnosed with anything. I hate to see anyone endure so much pain, but when it hits so close to home, I feel the need to help the best I can.

Please support us, Laura, Stevie, his family and all the families that have suffered because this terrible disease.

Here is more information:

This one is for Stevie!

Come crop with us on Saturday, September 15, from 10AM till midnight for a very special little boy! Cost is $40.00, will have snacks, drinks, lunch and dinner.

Let me tell you about Stevie. Stevie just turned three years old this week. In February, he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. Since then, he has spent weeks on end in the hospital undergoing the first rounds of Chemotherapy, the following months commuting back and forth to the hospital for his weekly treatments, where he greets whatever roommate he may be given with a big hug and a, "Hi Buddy!" He has the biggest blue eyes and loves to sing and play with his four year old brother Kane and his big sisters Megan, Sarah and Tristan. Stevie is beautiful, active, and he is strong! He has had to endure more than any three year old should have to endure in this fight for his life.

Because of him, Stevie's cousin Laura Fiore has committed to run the Nike Marathon in San Francisco on October 21, 2007. She has signed up with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training...an amazing group of people who have been raising funds for research and families with Leukemia since 1998. Her monetary goal is to raise $2,400 and the proceeds of this crop will go to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, so your cropping $$ are tax deductible this time!

Please go to Laura's blog if you would like to donate there as well.
http://barelyhanginon.blogspot.com/

- YPM will donate 10% of all purchases on September 15th.

Kathy was in line at 3:45am. She won a Tonic Trimmer for her bravery!

The line of scrappers ready to shop!

Waiting to come in!

The mad rush.

Our full crop.

The day started off with over 75 people in line to receive the coveted blue ticket. We passed out gifts, cropped until 2:30am, and gave away prizes. The day went well for us and we hope that you all enjoyed it as much as we did. We planned for this event with you in mind. We ordered t-shirts and bags 2 months in advance, we wanted to do so much more, but some of our ideas never came to fruition because of so many other things happening the same month. CHA finished a week before and we were still unpacking CHA stuff the night before the crop. Busy I tell ya! Thank you to all that sent cards and emails to me and my staff, it meant the world to us.

We are looking forward to our 3rd year crop coming next year and it will be at least a month after CHA. We want to give the crop the special attention that it deserves; we learned a lot from this one and know NOT to do it a week after CHA. Also, being so close to CHA, there was no new products in the store, bummer for many. We learned so much from our customers on how to improve the next big crop and this is why we love our customers! This is some of their suggestions for the next crop and we are taking them.

--All crops with food will have a menu posted ahead of time. This way if you have special dietary needs, we will know in advance.

--Everyone attending a Saturday crop will receive a gift of a picture of themselves or their group while they are cropping. We will give you some paper and embellishments to decorate the page. The group will chose the winner at the end of the crop (you do not have to participate). If you collect 10 pages (10 crops), you will receive a free album. This means the more crops you attend, the more layouts you will accumulate. This will be easy for us since we have our handy dandy picture machine; you will receive the picture the same day. We did this for our first anniversary crop (do you still have the layout?). The concept will now be a permanent contest at our Saturday crops.

--There will be no more tickets handed out, we will figure out another way to give away prizes.

Sounds fun enough? It gets better, we will provide a kit for croppers with all supplies included for a mere $15.00. The kit will be worth at least $20.00. Just something to give back to the loyal customer that continue to support us.

We will be having a Scrap Pink event. I will be posting details about our Scrap Pink event on the next post.

Taking time out for the little things.

In our busy lives, we sometimes forget the little things.

Besides my family, employees and friends, I have some of the best customers.

We are going to talk about YoungPlay Memories' customers in this blog post.

There are some people that come into your life by accident; in this case, customers, and you immediately connect with them. I have some of those people in my life. I have not forgotten the little things that people have done for me,YoungPlay Memories, and my family. I have gotten some great support, cards, pictures and stories to keep for a lifetime.

I keep everything, I'm going to have a wall of fame one day, the one that has pictures like "Started Here" and now "We Are Here", but that is a different story.

I'm looking at a thank-you card from Debbie and I didn't even tell her thank you. And to the thank-you card that I received from everyone at the Super Spender crop, to those that I didn't thank, THANK YOU! And to meeting some of my good friends as customers and now they come over my house like they are family. And to Betty, she embroidered our YPM t-shirts 2 days before we left for CHA, she also embroidered our aprons. And to all the people emailing me telling me my blog was down. And to Jodi for giving me pictures of me at one of our crops. And to Jan for giving me pictures of our very first class at our old store. And to Lee that sent me a layout she made of me and Barbara. And to all the customers that email me to say thank you. And to all the customers that make YPM what it is today!

I have been told by some that I'm strong, stubborn, genorous, hard working, caring, mean, a bi***, and some of is true, especially the generous and caring part; as the old cliche goes, to get to know me is to love me...

So what is this leading up to?

I care about my customers and I will do my best to make sure I show MY appreciation. Don't think for a moment, I forget anything!

THANK YOU YPM CUSTOMERS FOR TWO GREAT YEARS!

I'm on a roll

I guess not blogging for almost a week makes me what to twist and shout. I have so much I want to say, but this is it for the night.

Cruise: We need a deposit of $100.00 by September 1. We would like a call if you are interested; if you think you MAY want to go, call. We would like to get a round figure of how many may be participating.

Kristina Contes: Kristina is still scheduled to teach on September 8th. Sign up asap, she only has 30 kits per class.

Tim Holtz: Read below. He is only taking 50 students, and his new product the grungeboard was so popular (it won top 10 CK top ten picks along with shhhh..YPM) maybe he will bring some to sample and play with. We will have it in the stores to purchase as well.

Are you ready for another celebrity? She is scheduled for sometime this year (Oct maybe?). We are finalizing details now.

We have been receiving merchandise all this week, come in and see what we have.

Look for another goodie tomorrow.

Werrrre Back!

Whew! The show was a huge success, but we are glad it is over. We had so much fun flying to the show, setting up the booth, talking with customers and even had fun tearing down the booth. Believe it or not, we tore down the booth in 17 minutes flat.

We started with the worst flight to Chicago. Angelica, Laura and myself left San Jose at 9:00 pm and arrived in Chicago at 8:00 am( we had a layover in Vegas, not good for my pockets). We slept a whopping 3 hours before we landed. We waited 45 minutes for the rent a car bus to get us. One guy was so livid, he started cussing out the workers. They did take off our GPS rental charge in the end for the inconvience. We went to the hotel to eat breakfast, checked in and waited until our packages arrived. We walked to the convention center to set up, this time it was easier because the furniture except the bookcase and end table was rented. I didn't want to hassle with shipping large freight back and forth, so I just took the easy way out. Forgetting the price, the booth furniture actually looked nice. We took a few hours to set up and we figured out we needed a bookcase and end table. We drove to Target and bought what we needed to finish the booth.

We visited two great Scrapbooking stores. An Archivers and Windy City Scrapbooking. Archivers is a very nice, neat store that has the latest and greatest. Laura liked it so much she spent over $70.00. We went to our hotel and I went to bed at 7:00 pm, I was so exhausted.

The next day, we started on the booth and finished it up by 3:00pm.

The show started on Friday and we were ready. We had people coming in out all day. Marcellus arrived from Ireland Friday night, we had dinner while Laura and Angelica went to the SIS and Two Peas parties. Saturday was busy, we had the worst sushi and I think Marcellus got sick from it. Coming from California, we are spoiled. We have the freshest sushi here in San Francisco.

We finished up on Sunday with a bang. People were turning in their orders and we received a lot of orders on this day.

We flew home and here we are getting ready for our next show in February. We are glad it is over, but we are not resting until all the orders are shipped.

This is the Your Pictured Memories story. I will update on what I bought for the store later.

Super Spender-Customer Appreciation

We had a blast yesterday at our Super Spender. We supplied all the materials to make 3 fabulous projects and it turned out great.

The Super Spender day will now be called Customer Appreciation day. This was our first try at it and we had quite a few people, but we want to involve as many people as possible and here's how:

For the next one, we will look at the amount of money spent in a certain period of time, the number of referrals, participation in our events, etc.. We want everyone to try to get involved in our next one. If you don't qualify by spending the minimum amount required, you can qualify in other ways.

We had about 45 participants doing classes and cropping.

We started with Stephanie's Create class, next was Laura's Beach Shadow box class and we ended the classes with Angelica's Cottage Garden Frame. We cropped until midnight. It was a blast, we have some great things planned for the next one, we hope to see you guys there.

Have to give a shout out..

to all my staff that have come through for me in the last month. They always come through, but this last month has been extremely hard on them.

Reiko- Keeping the store on it's Ps& Qs while I have been gone. I can truly say you are my right hand. You are much more to me than my manager. Your knowledge and organizing skills are irreplaceable! Thank you

Rosemary- You have been a tremendous help. I have been hearing you say "Go Nancy, I got it" so much more this past month. Thank you

Irma- Your help around the store and knowledge is invaluable . Thank you

Stephanie & Allison- Opening and closing crops when I needed you. Thank you

Denise- for filling in when I needed you. Thank you

Angelica- Your willingness to help when I need something, helping with the store, designing our logo, making projects, helping with the Super Spender and maintaining the website has been a blessing! Your attention to detail keeps me on my toes. When we brainstorm, look at all the things we have come up with. Your designing skills have been out world. Thank you

Laura- Your help around the store, designing for both design teams AND your "ready to do this" attitude is a god sent blessing. Angelica and I are so glad to have you on our team at CHA as well. Thank you

Stephanie- Auuh Stephanie.. What can I say. You have cut over 500 flowers for me in last week, designed projects for CHA AND still teaching a class tomorrow. Incredibly you have done this even after your surgery Wednesday. Oh wait one more thing, you didn't have to type the project sheet again, lol. If you lived closer, I would give you more to do, just kidding. Thank you

Veronica- You always come in and leave the store in stealth mode, but you leave some amazing projects. We have not talked much, but you seem to always know what to do. We are so lucky to have you design for both teams. Your flowers on our shirts at CHA are going to look awesome. Thank you

Daniela- You have come through for us with some fantastic projects. They are going to look awesome displayed at CHA. I wished you lived closer so I could see you more. Your LSS is very lucky to have you. Thank you

Nancy- Yes, I have to give a shout out to me too. Why? Taking care of three kids full time (feeding, bathing, keeping them occupied..). Not hard? How about doing it while finalizing our booth details, packing for our booth, orgainzing the Super Spender Crop, setting up our cruise details, preparing for our second anniversary crop, ordering t-shirts and bags and getting them printed, trying to get our products here on time(this has been a bear in itself) AND doing this while my husband is out of town. I have to pat myself and my team for doing such an outstanding job. We are ready to go and put on an amazing show. Now off to finalize tomorrow's day.

Jul 12, 2007

Time to prepare..

Mentally.. All the booth items are packed and on their way to Chicago. They will be waiting for us when we arrive on Wednesday. Now that the preparation is over, I will be going to CHA in a buyer's frame of mind. The team and I will be going to sneak peeks and private parties to get the first look at the new lines. We will be attending the Creative Imaginations party first. I'm curious to see what they have in store. I hear that they have Chipboard Paper being released with their Creative Cafe......

We are confirmed for March 14th 2008, to ship out of LA to Baja. We have had questions about the amount of days and we have questioned it as well. Officially it is 4 days and 3 nights because we will arrive back on Monday. Even though it is early Monday, the travel agents considers this a day on the itinerary. We will have pictures of the ship tomorrow, I have to upload them first.

We have spaces filling and remember we have only 50 spots for cropping. There will be a tool station with trimmers, die cuts, scissors, punches and best of all, a cricut. Just bring your cartridge and we will do the rest for you. If you forget something, we will have some things for sale (adhesives, and basic scrapping items). Don't forget the other amenities like food, gambling and shows. First deposit of $100.00 is due by September 1 and another $150.00 by December 1. The rest of the payment is due January 1, 2008. You will need a passport or proof that you have applied for one. There are no exceptions, they will not allow you on the ship without the proper id and paperwork. Read on:

Confirmed..

I got a few things confirmed. First, Kristina is coming Sept 8th. She will be teaching two classes (similiar to what we set up last time). She may be teaching her previous classes or may come up with a few new ones. Just check back on the website to see the classes that she will be offering.

More information on the cruise. We will be crusing on the Monarch of the Seas (a Royal Caribean ship) in March 2008. We will be able to accomodate 50 scrappers. You do not want to miss this cruise! Our scrapping room will be ocean view with plenty of natural light. We have the scrapping rooms booked through our entire cruise so you can leave your tools at your seat without any worries. We will be featuring two teachers to teach two awesome classes and giving everyone a special "Cruise" gift. Come join us for unlimited scrapping, games, food and fun!

The cruise is for 4 days and 3 nights:

First Day (Fri)- we departure LA at 5:30pm

Second Day (Sat)- we are in Ensenada Mexico at 8:00am and depart at 5:00 pm

Third day (Sun)- We are cruising all day (scrapping for most)

Forth day (Monday)- We dock in LA at 7:00 am

Our dates are set tentatively set for the weekend of March 14th or March 21. We have to make sure we have the conference rooms are available, but one of these date will be booked. We will have confirmation by Wednesday.

The deposit is $100.00 by September 1st. Final payment is due January 1st. We will only take 50 scrappers because the ocean view room will only hold 60 people. If you want to come, it is a first come, first serve basis. The price is 399.00 for inside cabin and 449.00 for outside cabin. This price includes all port charges. These prices are based on double occupancy. Single rooms are a lot higher, please try to book with a friend or we can pair up singles. I will have pictures of the ship and scrap room on the website soon. We also have larger rooms that can sleep up to 4 people, let us know if you would interested in this option.

We will be renting a tour bus. If you are interested in riding with us, the cost is 100.00 per person which includes lunch. We need to confirm all people for the bus by December 1, 2007.

I will update more happenings later on tonight (about CHA)..
