Guess who is coming!

Hey guys! My name is Kristina Contes (but you can call me Kristi). I live in NY with my adorable husband Jonathan and our even more adorable pup, Chloe. I have been Paper Crafting for a few years now and I am so in love. Playing with texture and depth and color makes me so happy. I am fortunate enough to work with some of my favorite companies, such as Hambly Screen Prints, Rouge de Garance, Fontwerks and Purple Onion Designs. I also help run a challenge blog called the Dares. We just finished our first book, so I am super excited about that. Anything that helps people think about scrapbooking differently and documenting their lives in a more artistic, raw way is good in my book. Can't wait to come back to Cali and check out Young Play Memories!

You all are going to love this talented woman. She is a 2007 Hall of Famer and her work can be seen everywhere. Check out her blog at http://soundsofscience.blogspot.com.

We have set a date for July 7th. It is a one day only event.

Right Now with Kristina Contes $50.00 Saturday July 7th 10-1pm

Key Concepts: In this class we will be creating a mini book based on what is going on in your life right now. It will contain 8 photos that will capture a time capsule of this specific moment in your life…from favorite jeans to your child’s silly haircut. Educational emphasis is on paper tearing, stamping, finger painting, transparencies and embracing your own handwriting. What You Need: Supplies needed include a paper trimmer, scissors and fine tip scissors will be beneficial but not required. Your favorite adhesive and a glue stick or preferably rubber cement. Again, not a must, but will make things a bit easier. A hole punch, rub-on stick (the stylus kind would be perfect) and scotch tape. A fine tip, permanent marker and a permanent stamping ink in black or brown. Finally, you may want to bring a medium sized paintbrush if you are Type A and the finger painting mentioned above made you nervous.Photos to Take: This mini book requires 8 vertical 4x6 photos. They can be color, black and white, or a mix of both. Jot down a bit about how they relate to your life right now…some of my photos include my dog in her fall sweater, the new ribbons I just bought and the CD I can’t stop playing. These are all part of life as I know it at this moment. I like to think of this project as a time warp, like when you hear a song from Jr. High or smell an old friend’s perfume. What you include in your album will bring you back to this particular time in your life when you look at it many years from now. How cool is that?

Why I Scrapbook with Kristina Contes $60.00 July 7th Saturday 2-5pm

Key Concepts: In this class we will be creating a mini book based on the many reasons why we love this hobby. It will be full of inspiring photos and treasured keepsakes. Emphasis is on paper tearing, inking, stamping, working with envelopes, utilizing transparencies, loving your handwriting and layering.

What You need: Supplies needed include a paper trimmer or scissors, your favorite adhesive and a stapler. A hole punch, corner rounder and rub on stick. Your favorite fine tip permanent parker, a permanent stamping ink (like Staz On) and an acrylic block for stamping. Finally, a bone folder will be beneficial, but not required.

Photos to take: This mini book requires 12 4x6 landscape (horizontal) photos. They can be color, black and white, or a mix of both. Jot down a bit about why they are meaningful to you and how they inspire you and get your creativity flowing. Some of my photos include me scrap booking, my bulletin board, friends I’ve met through this hobby and of course my family. These are all part of the reasons why I scrap.

This is my favorite part of the project because it allows you to really stretch your creativity. If you scrap to remember, take a photo of yourself, or better yet, a vintage snapshot. If you scrap because it’s your “me” time, get a photo of your workspace or a messy scrap table. Other cool ideas include an inspiring window display, a great wallpaper design, a pile of colorful sweaters from J Crew…once you allow your mind to think in more abstract terms, the ideas will just keep on coming!

Crop with Kristina $20.00 Saturday 6-12am
