Sorry such a slacker..
It has been one busy month for me, the employees and my designers. We have been trying to prepare for the Super Spender, CHA and our cruise.. You read right, we said cruise. I will go into details about it later, but first the sale.
Starting today, everything in the store will be 30% off (excluding marked down items and Quickutz) through Saturday. Starting Sunday, everything in the store will be 40% off(excluding marked down items and Quickutz) lasting until Tuesday July 3rd. Come in and take advantage of the sale!
We will be closed July 4th to celebrate the holiday.
Don't forget that Quickutz is still on sale until the end of the month. Check out the website for the Quickutz specials.
June 29th will be the last day to sign up for Kristina Contes classes. She needs a head count asap. Call 209 836 1117 to save your seat. She only wants 32 people in each of her classes.
Our Super Spender promotion for the first half is almost complete. We are glad that so many of you qualified, our teachers will not disappoint. We have been preparing for this event for the last two weeks! Invites will be sent out July 2nd. The classes are amazing, the teachers have been working hard on these projects just for you.
The next crop is July 7th with Kristina. The cost is 10.00 for all participants
including members. Kristina will hang out to give some good scrapping advice so come join us. Like Kristina would say, "come and play".
Our second anniversary crop is filling fast. We have 3/4 of the seats filled. You do not want to miss this celebration. Look on the website if you need more information. More details will come as the date approaches. I do know that this is one party you do not want to miss.
Did I mention that from now on if you attend a crop, you will receive a gift just for coming? Yes, you will receive a gift for coming out because we get so busy we forget to do contests and raffles. This way, everyone receives a prize. We have the space, prizes for everyone, and for members, no fee so why not come.
CHA is right around the corner and so is the release of our 2nd round of products. We are so excited about this release and it includes lots of ribbon, ChipPic, papers and ...we will reveal it all here and our website ypmem.com in mid July.
Have you wondered why you haven't see me in the store lately? One is that the children are out of school and the other reason is that I have been working on manufacturing our products. Aside from the day to day operations of the store, I have added manufacturing and taking care of the children full time to the mix. Luckily for me, I have a great staff that can handle the store without me.
Manufacturing is some what different from running a store in a sense that you become a vendor instead of retailer. The business of running both never changes, but the process does.
The manufacturing side is a whole new world which requires me to change my mind set to focus on how to get our products from conception to final product and in our hands in a timely manner. We have to plan everything to make our products happen. From the type, color, size, packaging, shipping, printing, our planning is crucial to getting our final samples in before the show. It takes between 4-6 months and at least 2 samples to have the products we envisioned completed.
We will be releasing all our products at the show and hopefully they will be on store shelves by mid August.
In my world, I would have products timed out to be released once a month because of two words, expense control. For the manufacturer and retailer it is better for us to release products out in cycles. Releasing it all at once creates a huge expense, staggering releases gives you capitol from release #1 to buy release #2, you get the picture. Big companies like Making Memories, K&CO and Creative Imaginations, etc.. can do this without any problems because they have hundreds of products in their catalog and hundreds of retailers ordering at each show.
We will do this eventually when we add more products to our catalog. The more variety- the more consumers, the more consumers -the more orders, the more orders -the more money we have to add to our product catalog (do you see a cycle here?). This takes time, capitol and careful planning.
Remember volume is the key in receiving deeper discounts from our factories. We have just a few releases, but have to order it all at once to receive bulk discounts. For instance, do you want to pay 1.50 for a single printed side of paper? Well, that is what it would cost you if we ordered only a few hundred sheets. Calculating the amount of each product to order is a tough decision and it takes experience to do this. Order too much and you sit on inventory, order too little and you lose out on opportunity to sell. Ordering just enough is the key to success for any retail business and manufacturer, this takes time, experience and capitol.
Oh, don't forget that we have to do an analysis to see if the product is worth our time and money to make. We have to analyze designer fees, production costs, shipping costs, storage costs, electricity to store... (burden costs) etc.. We have cut so many products because it was not worth our time and money.
And that is what I have been up to. We have learned so much from our first release, it will make this release much better.
Now the good stuff. We are planning a cruise for you! Remember the big announcement? This is it. We have finally set a date and the plans are starting to come together. The cruise will set sail from LA to Baja sometime in March - 2008. We will have 3 days of cropping, eating, contests and games all on a ship. We will have all the details once we finalize the plans. This is going to be a great opportunity to get away from it all. Check the website for details soon.
